Japanese Style Animation: Anime!
What is Anime?
|
Anime is a type of animation that originates in Japan. The very first "anime" that was created in Japan was Momotaro: Umi no Shinpei, a World War II era propaganda film. As the years passed, more and more animations were created and distributed across Japan. In the 1980's, anime became a cultural export of Japan, with many different countries starting to endorse anime as a valid medium of entertainment. In America, however, it didn't catch on as strongly until the late 90's, where it was unfortunately considered children's entertainment. This is very untrue, as many anime programs and films discuss very serious topics, and are many times intended for a mature audience. |
Mainstream Anime
Today, many anime air in the prime time spot on Japanese TV. Some of these anime have a similar treatment even in the US, although much later at night. Anime like Naruto and Attack on Titan have both been very popular in both America and Japan, with the latter being one of the first anime to prove that not all Japanese "cartoons" are for young children. |
